In 1995, the movie Toy Story came out, and I remember being SO EXCITED when my parents took me to see it. π
As I watched the movie for the first time, I remember feeling so bad for Woody because he seemed like such a nice toy, but his friends were being mean to him. Woody was only upset because he was always Andy’s favorite toy, and Andy didn’t want Buzz Lightyear, Andy’s new toy, to become Andy’s favorite. Because of this, my favorite part of the movie was when everyone was nice to Woody again. π
I recently rewatched Toy Story, and my feelings about the movie have changed. (Isn’t it funny how that happens when you rewatch something as an adult? π)
First of all, I didn’t realize how FANTASTIC the movie is! I laughed so much as I rewatched the film. π
Second, I realized that Buzz Lightyear is the one that I feel bad for. (Also, he is definitely my favorite character in the film. He’s hilarious! π)
Buzz didn’t deserve the mistreatment from Woody. Buzz was just being himself and trying to live his best “toy life”. It’s not Buzz’s fault that Andy preferred him instead of Woody.
Third, the movie has a lot of great messages.
Woody clearly wanted Andy to feel the same way about him as he used to. That is understandable. However, people change, and their feelings can too.
Woody was trying to control Andy’s feelings, and that was NOT okay.
Finally, my favorite part of the movie is definitely when Woody and Buzz become friends.
I like that Woody overcame his jealousy of Buzz and realized that even if Andy prefers Buzz, Woody still has VALUE. π
I’d like to end this week’s post with Randy Newman‘s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
Lyrics:
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah, you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You got troubles, I’ve got ’em too
There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you
We stick together and see it through
‘Cause you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
Some other folks might be
A little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too
Maybe
But none of them will ever love you
The way I do
It’s me and you, boy
And as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me

May we surround ourselves with friends who help us be our BEST selves. π
Wishing you well! π
