Rosie the Riveter

Happy Thursday! ❤

This past Sunday was International Women’s Day. Who do you think about on International Women’s Day?

Someone I think of on International Women’s Day is Rosie the Riveter.

Since Rosie the Riveter is such an iconic figure, I wondered if there were any songs ever written about her. I was pleased to find out that there were. 🙂

Check out the Four Vagabonds’ 1943 song “Rosie the Riveter.”

Lyrics:

All the day long, whether rain or shine She’s a part of the assembly line She’s making history, working for victory– Rosie, brrrrrr, the riveter.

Keeps a sharp lookout for sabotage Sitting up there on the fuselage. That little frail can do more than a male can do– Rosie, brrrrrr, the riveter.

Rosie’s got a boyfriend, Charlie.

Charlie, he’s a Marine.

Rosie is protecting Charlie, workin’ overtime on the riveting machine.

When they gave her a production “E,” she was as proud as a girl could be!

There’s something true about–red, white, and blue about–Rosie, brrrr, the riveter.

What do you think of this song?

Another version of this song was also released in 1943. Here are The Smoothies and The Cappy Barra Harmonica Boys performing the song:

What do you think of this version? I enjoy both versions of this song, but I found the video for the second song to be particularly entertaining. 🙂

Are there any songs that you think of on International Women’s Day? For my other posts about songs related to International Women’s Day, check out “Respect” and “Songs that Move Me, ‘One Woman.'”

Before this week, I actually had never heard of this song or the Four Vagabonds, The Smoothies, and The Cappy Barra Harmonica Boys, so it was fun to do this post! 🙂 I hope that I was able to introduce a new song to you! 🙂
