Happy October! 🙂
Last week, I shared with you my latest original song, “Where Did You Go?”:
Lyrics:

I remember how you used to be so different. I remember how you used to be so strong.
You always did what you thought was the right thing. Now that is long gone.
Where did you go? Why did we grow apart?
Where is the one I knew with the golden heart?
Like the leaves we change. We can’t stay the same. We need to grow. When will you find yourself and become whole?
I remember how we used to trust each other. I remember how you used to read my mind.
You were always someone I could turn to. Now our relationship’s a lie.
Where did you go? Why did we grow apart?
Where is the one I knew with the golden heart?
Like the leaves we change. We can’t stay the same. We need to grow. When will you find yourself and become whole?
I remember how you used to make me smile. You were my constant in life.
I never thought you could do any wrong. Now you’re a stranger in my eyes.
Where did you go? Why did we grow apart?
Where is the one I knew with the golden heart?
Like the leaves we change. We can’t stay the same. We need to grow. When will you find yourself and become whole?
I hope that you’ll come back. If you never do, I wish the best for you.
Where did you go? Why did we grow apart?
Where is the one I knew with the golden heart?
Like the leaves we change. We can’t stay the same. We need to grow. When will you find yourself and become whole?
Where did you go? Why did we grow apart?
Where is the one I knew with the golden heart?
Like the leaves we change. We can’t stay the same. We need to grow. When will you find yourself and become whole?
When will you find yourself and become whole?
This week, I wanted to tell you a little bit about this song. I actually wrote this song last week, in two days.
I’ve found that so many people can change dramatically, sometimes for the better but sometimes for the worse. It is really frustrating when a person you love becomes someone that you no longer know.
I wrote “Where Did You Go?” to express feelings of frustration and sadness about losing someone. That person could be a friend, or that person could be a romantic partner. The song is about how the good that you once knew in that person seems to be no longer there. Somehow, that person has transformed into someone completely unrecognizable.
I started writing the song by singing the first lines of the chorus:
Where did you go? Why did we grow apart?
Where is the one I knew with the golden heart?
I was thinking about the process of change and remembered my song “Like the Leaves We Change.” I wrote the song “Like the Leaves We Change” around the time I was working on my album, TEMPTATION; however, it didn’t make the final cut for the album. 😉
The song had been sitting for years-specifically until last week when I began writing “Where Did You Go?”.
I thought about taking parts of “Like the Leaves We Change” and adding them to “Where Did You Go?”, but I found that what “Like the Leaves We Change” was about did not quite fit with my new song. That’s when I decided to just take the line:
Like the leaves we change.
Although the song is about the sadness and pain you feel when someone who used to be an integral part of your life drifts away, the song is also about hope. The chorus ends with:
When will you find yourself and become whole?
This suggests that the person may eventually become the person you once knew once that person realizes that he/she has lost his/her true self.
However, the song is also about being realistic. The bridge is:
I hope that you’ll come back. If you never do, I wish the best for you.
There is a chance that this person will never become the person he/she once was. However, instead of resenting that person for becoming a stranger, you can choose to wish him/her the best and choose to go on with your life without him/her.
If you’ve ever lost someone important to you in this way, I hope this song gives you comfort. ❤
