Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

I’m so pumped for my upcoming show! I’ve been busy practicing a mix of my original songs and some of my favorite covers.

One of the covers I have been practicing is “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by the Eurythmics.

Lyrics:

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas,
Everybody’s looking for something.
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something
Hold your head up
Keep your head up, movin’ on
Hold your head up, movin’ on
Keep your head up, movin’ on
Hold your head up
Keep your head up, movin’ on
Hold your head up, movin’ on
Keep your head up, movin’ on
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something

I LOVE this song because it is so beautiful while at the same time extremely haunting. I’ve always enjoyed this music video because when paired with the song, the bizarre images give off a creepy vibe.

During an interview the Eurythmics did with The Guardian, Annie Lennox shares that they wrote this song after their earlier band The Tourists had broken up. She said, “We were massively in debt, and I’d come across some real monsters in the music business. I’d lived in so many bedsits and was desperately unhappy. We’d survived, kinda, but it was tough. I felt like we were in a dream world, that whatever we were chasing was never going to happen. All this poured into [this song].”

Regarding the music video, Dave Stewart shared that he wanted the music video to be “weird and dreamlike.” They included the “cow in [the music video] to signify reality.” On a humorous note, during the interview, he added that the cow was peeing all over the place! 😀

Have you heard Marilyn Manson’s cover of this song?

I had heard the song before and thought it was a very eerie cover, but I hadn’t watched the music video for the song until I wrote this blog post. Utterly disturbing! 😮

Which version of the song do you like better?

I look forward to performing my cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” at my June 20th show! 🙂
