I changed my strings today and have been preparing a mix of my favorite covers and my original songs…a total of 32 songs to be exact. 😉

This week’s creepy song is from one of my FAVORITE movies. A couples years ago, I rented What We Do in the Shadows. I had heard that the movie had good reviews, and since I LOVE Halloween, I thought I would give this documentary about modern-day vampires a shot. This film was so hilarious that I constantly laughed out loud the first time I watched it. I loved it so much that I bought it. I usually try to wait until the Halloween season to watch it, but I usually end up watching it at least twice a year…once usually during the lovely cold, dark winter that Wisconsin gifts me 😉 and the second time in October. 🙂 Here is the trailer if you haven’t seen the film:

The casting for this film was perfect! All the vampires are absolutely hilarious! My favorite vampire in this film is Vladislav (played by Jemaine Clement). He is too funny! 😀

Everything in this film is so well done, including the opening song “You’re Dead.”

I had never heard this song before I saw the film, and I was curious to find out who sang it. I was actually surprised to learn that this is an old folk song! 😮  The song is by Norma Tanega, and it is from the year 1966!

Lyrics:

Don’t sing if you want to live long
they have no use for your song
you’re dead, you’re dead, you’re dead
you’re dead and outta this world.
You’ll never get a second chance
plan all your moves in advance
stay dead, stay dead, stay dead
stay dead and outta this world.
Run fast don’t stand in the sun
there’s too much work to be done
you’re down, you’re down, you’re down
youre down and outta this world.
Don’t ever talk with your eyes
be sure that you compromise
you’re dead, you’re dead, you’re dead
you’re dead and outta this world.
Hear the unloved weeping like rain
guard your sleep from the sound of their pain
long gone, long gone, long gone
long gone and outta this world.
When you smile and it tears your face
it’s time for the inhuman race
you’re down, you’re down, you’re down
you’re down and outta this world.
Now your hope and compassion is gone
you’ve sold out your dream to the world
stay dead, stay dead, stay dead
you’re dead and outta this world.
The song is so haunting!
I recently started watching the TV show What We Do in the Shadows

Although I LOVED the movie, I was hesitant to watch the TV show because I didn’t know who was writing and directing it. However, once I learned that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi had written and directed the show, I knew I would not be disappointed. And, I  have to say, I LOVE this TV show! ❤ There are so many moments that make me laugh out loud! 😀

My favorite vampire in this show is Nadja  (played by Natasia Demetriou). The looks of disgust she gives the camera are just too funny! 😉

I also enjoy that the TV show starts with the song “You’re Dead.” It’s such a perfect song for the show and film!

If you haven’t seen What We Do in the Shadows, the film or the series, I recommend them both! ❤
