I had recently read that it is important for adults to take some time and enjoy books that they used to love as a child.
I came across a book that my 4th grade teacher, Mr. W, had given me. It was The BFG by Roald Dahl.
I remember how much Mr. W had loved Roald Dahl’s stories and how we had read so many of Roald Dahl’s books in his class. Mr. W was one of my FAVORITE teachers. I LOVED learning in his class.
I decided to reread The BFG. I honestly think the last time I read it was the 4th grade! 😮
It was such an ENJOYABLE experience rereading The BFG that I decided to buy a collection of Roald Dahl’s books to entertain my inner child. 🙂
One of the books in that collection was Matilda. I didn’t read Matilda in Mr. W’s class, but I was excited to read it as an adult because I remember how much I LOVED the 1996 movie Matilda.
I must have watched Matilda over and over again as a kid because as I was reading Matilda, I began remembering the parts of the film that featured the dialog and scenes in the book. Because I had not watched Matilda since I was a kid, I was very surprised that this happened. 😜
When I finished the book, I was very pleased to find that the movie followed the book pretty closely. I think the movie was a great adaptation of the book.
Of course because I finally read the book Matilda, I had to re-watch the movie! 😉
I thought it was so crazy how many of the lines from the movie I remembered! How many times did I watch it as a kid? 🤣
One the scenes that I remember liking as a kid was when Matilda dances to “Little Bitty Pretty One” while practicing her powers.
Here’s the scene:
What do you think of this scene?
It makes me want to dance. 😉
Here’s the full version of Thurston Harris‘ 1957 song if you’d like to hear it:
Lyrics:
Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mm
Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mm

What books did you love as a kid? Have you tried rereading them as an adult? Were any of them made into films? I would love to hear your thoughts!
Wishing you well! 💜
