Blowin’ in the Wind

Happy Autumn! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

Today is the official start of my FAVORITE season! ๐Ÿ’™ What do you enjoy doing in autumn?

Now that autumn has begun, you can expect to start seeing Halloween-related posts. ๐Ÿ‘ป

However, I’ve decided not to start those this week. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Yesterday was the International Day of Peace. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Here is the song I wrote about peace and shared with you in 2017:

There are many songs out there are about peace, and this week I wanted to write about Bob Dylan’s 1962 song “Blowin’ in the Wind.”

Lyrics:

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, ‘n’ how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they’re forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind
Yes, ‘n’ how many years can a mountain exist
Before it’s washed to the sea?
Yes, ‘n’ how many years can some people exist
Before they’re allowed to be free?
Yes, ‘n’ how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn’t see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind
Yes, ‘n’ how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, ‘n’ how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, ‘n’ how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

How does the song make you feel?

I find it extremely heartbreaking that these words that Bob Dylan first sang in 1962 still apply to our world today. ๐Ÿ’”

Do you remember the first time you heard this song?

I have some big Bob Dylan fans in my life, and they would be disappointed to learn that I didn’t find out until this week that Bob Dylan released the original version of this song…๐Ÿ˜ฎ(Sorry!๐Ÿ˜ณ)

I remember hearing a female voice singing

The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

when I listened to the radio (probably one of my mom’s oldies stations ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) when I was growing up, but this week was the first time I actually heard Bob Dylan’s version.

Do you enjoy any covers of this song? Which version do you enjoy the most?

May we all hold peace in our hearts and spread kindness. ๐Ÿค

  1. This song makes me feel wistful and melancholic. I don’t think I knew that Bob Dylan released the original either. I’m not sure whose rendition of the song is the one filed away in my memory bank. ๐Ÿ™‚ I seem to remember a female’s voice as well…Joan Baez?

    • Thanks for sharing, Dawn! It makes me feel better that I’m not the only one who didn’t know it was originally a Bob Dylan song. ๐Ÿ˜ŠI’m listening to the Joan Baez one right now. It’s gorgeous! โค๏ธ
