No School Tomorrow

Happy March! 🌹

I’m so grateful that the weather is much warmer and safer this week compared to last week! 🥶

Last week, schools were closed for multiple days. One of my students told me that he missed FOUR days of school last week because of the weather! 😮 He also told me that they used up all of their snow days a while ago, so their school year now has to be extended because of the crazy weather we’ve been having. What a bummer!

When you were in school, do you remember having snow days? If so, do you remember having them often?

I DO NOT remember having snow days often. If school was closed because of an abundance of snow (and NOT frigid temperatures), I remember sledding in my yard with my sister.

My dog would steal our hats on the way down the hill! 🤣 (At the time, I remember that we didn’t think it was funny, but now I realize that that dog was pretty hilarious. 😁)

Because snow days were rare, I had a memory come back to me last week related to snow days.

In an earlier post, I had written about two of my FAVORITE teachers when I was growing up. One of them was Mrs. R, my music and choir instructor. She also happened to be my homeroom teacher one year.

During homeroom, she was very excited talking about how the weather forecasters were predicting that we would have an abundance of snow tomorrow and that she anticipated that school would be closed the next day.

How excited was she?

She ran to her piano and enthusiastically started singing, “There’ll be no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow if it snows. There’ll be no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow if it snows.” 😃

For years, I had thought she wrote that little ditty right then and there, but this week, I learned that it is actually a real song—”No School Tomorrow (If It Snows)” by Jay Althouse.🤓

Here is the song:

Lyrics:

The weatherman is saying that snow is on the way.
The sun is disappearing.
The sky is turning gray.
I’ve listening to the forecast.
I hope it isn’t wrong.
And that is why I sing this song…
There’ll be no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow,
No school tomorrow if it snows.
There’ll be no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow,
No school tomorrow if it snows.
I’m wishing and I’m hoping that snow will fall tonight.
I’m crossing all my fingers so very, very tight.
I hope we get a blizzard and snow the whole week long.
And that is why I sing this song…
No school tomorrow, if it snows.
There’ll be no school tomorrow, no school tomorrow,
No school tomorrow if it snows.
And now as dawn is breaking, I jump up from my bed.
And yes, I still remember what the weatherman has said.
I run straight to the window to see if he is right.
Everything is snowy white.
There is no school today, no school today,
No school today because it snowed.
There is no school today, no school today,
No school today because it snowed.
One more time!
There is no school today, no school today,
No school because it snowed.
Please snow some more.

Have you heard the song before? What do you think of it?

The lyrics and tempo definitely capture the excitement kids feel about the idea of having a snow day and how ecstatic kids become when school is canceled due to winter weather. ❄️

Since there was such crazy weather last week, I hope the rest of winter will be mild. Spring is just a few weeks away! 🌸 ( My next show is just a week before that! 😊)

Wishing you well! 💚
