I’ve been having SO MUCH fun preparing my set list for this upcoming show! πŸ’š

I’m even going to perform one of my original songs that I have NOT performed for others before! 😯

Here’s a clip of my original song “Where Did You Go?”

One cover that I’m SUPER EXCITED to perform at my next show is Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

Lyrics

Just a small town girl
Livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waitin’
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin’ in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’ somewhere in the night
Workin’ hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some’ll win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
Whoa, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waitin’
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin’ in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’, somewhere in the night
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlights, people
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlights, people

It’s SUCH a great song! ❀️

How do you react when you hear it?

I ALWAYS get excited! πŸ˜ƒ

I have a tendency to assume that the person who sings a song is the one who wrote it. I’ve realized (many times πŸ˜‹) that is not a good assumption to make. 😁

I came across NPR’s article “‘Don’t Stop Believin” Goes On And On, Because We Need It To,” and I learned some interesting things about the song.

First, Jonathan Cain, Journey’s keyboardist, and NOT Steve Perry, wrote the song.

When Cain was struggling while trying to pursue a life of music, he said “I called my father for some money. I said, ‘Dad, I’m out of cash here…Should I come home? Is this thing just not, you know, panning out?’ And he told me, ‘We’ve always had a vision, son. Don’t stop believing.’ I had a lyric book next to me, and I wrote it down.”

I think it is SO neat that his father was so supportive of his dreams! πŸ’šIt is so powerful that he recognized how meaningful his father’s words were and included them in a song! ❀️

I like how this article talks about the line “Born and raised in South Detroit.” South Detroit doesn’t actually exist. Why was it included? I learned that the line merely needed another syllable. 😁

The article also talks about the lines “A singer in a smokey room/A smell of wine and cheap perfume.” These lines refer to how desperate Cain felt when he was struggling as an artist.

Cain says “I really believe this song is about wanting to make it. Where you think you’re stuck in lifeβ€”that you’re able to get out, the same way I got out of Chicago.”

When you feel stuck, what motivates you to keep trying or move forward?

I love surrounding myself with nature. πŸ’š

I took this photo when I visited the Meiji Shrine (which you can read about here).

Being in nature helps me clear my mind. πŸ’š

Whatever it is you are trying to make work in your life right now, don’t quit.

Find your inner calm and give yourself the chance to find a way to actualize your goal. πŸ’œ

May you be well! πŸ’›

If you’d like to support my mission to share my passion for music with the world and spread joy, love, and positivity, you can do so here. Thank you! ❀️
