I’m Gonna Knock on Your Door

Here’s another edition of the Thursday Evening Post. 😄

I was traveling by car the other day, and the oldies station was on. I THOROUGHLY enjoy listening to music from the 1950s and ’60s! It makes me feel all warm inside! 😊

Do you enjoy music from those periods?

I heard an oldies song I hadn’t heard before: “I’m Gonna Knock on Your Door” by Eddie Hodges.

Lyrics:

I’m gonna knock on your door
Ring on your bell
Tap on your window, too
If you don’t come out tonight
When the moon is bright
I’m gonna knock and ring and tap until you do
I’m gonna knock on your door (ah-ha)
Call out your name (ah-ha)
Wake up the town, you’ll see (ah-ha)
I’m gonna hoo-hoot and howl
Like a lovesick owl
Until you say you’re gonna come out with me
Hey little girl (how-how) this ain’t no time to sleep
Let’s count kisses ‘stead of countin’ sheep
How (how-how), how can I hold ya near
With you up there and me down here?
I’m gonna knock on your door
Ring on your bell
Tap on your window, too
If you don’t come out tonight
When the moon is bright
I’m gonna knock and ring and tap until you do
Hey little girl (hey little girl) this ain’t no time to sleep (ah-ha)
Let’s count kisses ‘stead of countin’ sheep (ah-ha)
How (how-how), how can I hold ya near (ah-ha)
With you up there and me down here?
I’m gonna knock on your door
Ring on your bell
Tap on your window, too
If you don’t come out tonight
When the moon is bright
I’m gonna knock and ring and tap until you do
I’m gonna knock and ring and tap
And knock and ring and tap
And knock and ring and tap
And knock and ring until you do

This song was released in 1961.

Isn’t it adorable?

The first time I heard it, it put a HUGE smile on my face. 😁

I learned that this song was actually FIRST released in 1959 by the The Isley Brothers.😮

How do you think the two versions compare?

I enjoy the vocals and instruments in The Isley Brothers’ version better. Their song makes me want to dance! 💚

How do you think The Isley Brothers’ “I’m Gonna Knock on Your Door” compares to their extremely famous song “Twist and Shout”?

I love how music spreads so much joy! 🎶

May you be well! 💙

If you’d like to support my mission to share my passion for music with the world and spread joy, love, and positivity, you can do so here. Thank you so much! ❤️
