Scream and Be Free

The other day, I was listening to Hanson’s album Anthem and appreciating how fantastic their song “Scream and Be Free” is.

Songwriters: Isaac Hanson / Taylor Hanson / Zac Hanson © Warner/Chappell Music, Inc

Lyrics:

If I wait for summer to begin I may never begin myself
If we look to another for our dreams they may never become our own
There’s a story every girl will share and a journey every boy must take
Sing it if you know it
Scream it if you feel it
There’s nothing standing in your way
Follow along with me
Scream and be free

If you’re always living for tomorrow you’re gonna miss right now
If we’re only looking in the mirror we’ll never see ourselves
There’s a story every girl will share and a journey every boy must take
Sing it if you know it
Scream it if you feel it
There’s nothing standing in your way
Follow along with me
Scream and be free

Scream and be free
Raise your voices
Singing one more song
We will not be here for too long
Raise your voices
Singing my anthem
Make your mark before we’re un-dead
You’ve got to scream it out
Sing it if you know it
Scream it if you feel it
There’s nothing standing in your way
Follow along with me
Scream and be free
You’ve got to scream and be free
If I wait for summer to begin I may never begin
I think that living in the moment is extremely important and can make your life so much more enjoyable. (Check out my posts “Using Mindfulness to Overcome Stage Fright” and  “Mindful Leadership.”)

I love that this song is about being mindful. ❤

I love that the song starts and ends with “If I wait for summer to begin I may never begin.” This can be taken both figuratively and literally. When taken literally, I think about how bad I can be at being mindful sometimes, especially this past year.
Wisconsin winters can be really tough! (I live in Wisconsin because I love the spring, summer, and fall. 😉 ) This past winter was so LONG! 😦 I must admit that I was quite crabby when I thought winter was over and then more snow came. 😉 Summer is my absolute favorite season, and every time more snow would come, I would just wish the winter weather away. It’s a bummer if you think about it. Winter can be really long in Wisconsin, and if you just wish winters away, you are wasting a lot of time—a lot of your life. 😦
This song is about living in the moment no matter what life brings you and taking the risks you need to take in order to make the most out of your life.
Thank you, Hanson, for this wonderful song. ❤
