Thank You For Being a Friend

In last week’s post, I wrote about the benefits of expressing gratitude.

Continuing on with the theme of gratitude, I wanted to write about Andrew Gold’s “Thank You For Being a Friend.”

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down a road and back again
Your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant
I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
Well, you would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
If it’s a car you lack
I’d surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need any time of the day or night
I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow
And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear even though it’s hard to hear
I will stand here close and say
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Let me tell you about a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
And when we die and float away
Into the night the Milky Way
You’ll hear me call as we ascend
I’ll say your name then once again
Thank you for being a
Thank you for being a friend (I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
People, let me tell you about a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
Whoa, tell you about a friend (thank you right now, for being a friend)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna tell you right now, and tell you again)
Thank you for being a friend (I wanna thank you, thank you, for being a friend)
Thank you for being a friend

It’s such an upbeat, fun song! 😀

I knew of the song, “Thank You For Being a Friend,” but I didn’t know who sang it. I came to find out that it was Andrew Gold…again. (I had written about Andrew Gold in the past when I learned that he was the singer of “Spooky, Scary Skeletons.” Read about that post, here. 😉 )

It’s so interesting to me that the word “friend” means different things to different people. I consider a “friend” to be someone that I can wholeheartedly trust, be completely myself with, learn from, be inspired by, and rely on. ❤

In my opinion, many people seem to confuse the word “acquaintance” with the word “friend.” They consider people that they know only on the surface level and only talk to sometimes (or when it’s convenient for them) to be their friends. I hope that these people can learn to recognize the difference and develop more meaningful relationships with others because life is so much better with friends! 🙂

I am truly grateful for all the wonderful friends I have!

Before you start your weekend, take a moment to think about all the wonderful friends in your life and thank them for being your friend! ❤

Thoughts? Please post them :-)
