I’ve been busy practicing a ton of original songs and covers to get my voice and fingers ready for the 2-hour performance! 🙂
One of the songs that I’ve been practicing is one of my favorites, John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
Lyrics:
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breezeCountry roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roadsAll my memories gather round her
Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eyeCountry roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterdayCountry roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roadsCountry roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roadsTake me home, down country roads
Take me home, down country roads
I mentioned this song in an earlier post, “Live Music in the Lounge.”
When I worked at an ESL school, I had a mini concert on the last day of classes and performed songs that my students requested. 🙂 One of those requests was “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The student that requested it said that it was one of her favorite songs because her father used to sing it to her when she was a child. ❤
I had always liked the song because of its beautiful message, but it wasn’t until that request that I learned it. Since then, I have loved performing this song!
I’m looking forward to covering this song in just a few weeks!
Have a great weekend! 🙂
