Should It Be About Making a Hit Song?

Recently, I saw an advertisement about a TV show where contestants compete against one another to create a hit song.

I shook my head when I saw this advertisement. Is this what music has become nowadays? Instead of people using their talent and creativity to write a song that is meaningful to them, has it really come down to just making something that people will think is catchy?

I put my heart into all the songs I create. I create songs as a way to heal, express emotion, and/or process events in life.

If I just made songs in order to please my supporters, my songs would be meaningless to me…

When I started performing my song “Goodbye,”

some people told me that the song is just too sad for them. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but I didn’t write “Goodbye” for my audience. I wrote it for my grandmother who passed away before I could say goodbye to her and tell her how much she meant to me.

Some of my supporters really like the song because they can relate to it. That is what I love most about writing music. When my supporters tell me that they can relate to the songs I write, it is an incredible feeling! ❤

I consider music an art, but it seems that culturally, we are moving away from music being seen in this way.

What do you think?

Thoughts? Please post them :-)
