Summer Breeze

I can’t believe autumn begins this coming Monday! 😮

Summer is my FAVORITE season in Wisconsin, and even though summer comes to an end EVERY year, I always have such a hard time saying goodbye to it. 😦

This week, I wanted to write about a song that was about saying goodbye to summer, but I couldn’t think of any. Maybe I should write one? 😉

So, instead I chose to write about a song that makes me think of summer and at the same time, makes me feel sad.

That song is “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts.

Lyrics:

See the curtains hangin’ in the window, in the evenin’ on a Friday night
A little light a-shinin’ through the window, lets me know everything is alright
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind
See the paper layin’ on the sidewalk, a little music from the house next door
So I walked on up to the doorstep, through the screen and across the floor
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Sweet days of summer, the jasmine’s in bloom
July is dressed up and playing her tune
And I come home from a hard day’s work
And you’re waiting there, not a care in the world
See the smile a-waitin’ in the kitchen, food cookin’ and the plates for two
Feel the arms that reach out to hold me, in the evening when the day is through
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind

Every time I hear this song, it makes me feel relaxed, makes me visualize the sun beating down on a beautiful summer day, but also makes me feel sad.

I was trying to figure out why this song makes me sad, and I think it is because of the association I have with it.

I grew up with my mom blasting her oldies radio station. 😉 I’m not complaining; I actually enjoyed the songs. 🙂 “Summer Breeze” was definitely a song that got played a lot on that station during the summer.

Often during the summer, I would hang out with my family on our big back porch while the oldies station played in the background.

Whenever I hear “Summer Breeze” now, I think about that memory and how sad I felt when I knew summer vacation was ending and that I would have to go back to school soon.

It’s funny how the associations we can develop with songs may have nothing to do with the actual mood of a song. 😉

Goodbye, Summer. I look forward to enjoying you again next year! ❤
