Reaching Toward What Is Next

So much has changed since COVID-19 hit our planet. We all have had to adapt.

Can you think of things you used to do before the pandemic that you weren’t able to or still aren’t able to do?

Can you think of things that you didn’t used to do before the pandemic but do now?

What are some things that you have been extremely excited about finally doing again?

When the pandemic was at its worst here in the U.S., I appreciate that digital platforms allowed us to connect with each other.

I am grateful that these platforms allowed us to have video calls with one another and gave us the opportunity to take classes we may not have taken before.

Yoga is something I hadn’t done before the pandemic, but because classes became available online, I began to love yoga so much that it is now a regular part of my day. 💜

Earlier this year, I had taken an online yoga class where the instructor began by reading Amanda Gorman’s poem “New Day’s Lyrics.” My favorite lines from this poem are:

So let us not return to what was normal,

But reach toward what is next.

Ever since I heard this poem, I have regularly thought about these two lines.

Although vaccines are available to everyone in the U.S., life still isn’t the same as it was prior to COVID-19. Do you think it will ever be?

On February 20, 2020, I performed at Hop Haus Brewing Co. It was the first time I got to use my new PA system, and I remember being just so excited! Later that year…perhaps May…I had another show scheduled, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19.

For the past 2.5 years, I have practiced my guitar and sung nearly every single day. When I practiced, I would often imagine would it would feel like to perform again.

I am filled with absolute gratitude that last Friday I finally had the chance to perform again. ❤️

Allison Merten at Hop Haus Brewing Co.

Performing at Hop Haus Brewing Co. for three hours was an experience beyond words. 💚

It felt surreal performing in front of others again and profoundly emotional sharing my passion for music. 💛

Here are a couple clips from the show:

My Original Song “Tarantula”

My Original Song “Beautiful Agony”

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Hop Haus Brewing Co. for the opportunity to perform again and for all the wonderful people that came out to the show!💙

I don’t know what the new normal looks like, but I want to remind myself to “reach toward what is next.”

Wishing you well! ❤️
