Oh! Carol!

Although I’ve lived in Wisconsin all my life, I’ve never gotten used to the cold weather. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Fortunately, we had a very warm day yesterday that made it easier to enjoy my FAVORITE season of the year. ๐Ÿ‚

When it’s cold, I don’t want to go outside unless I’m completely bundled up. ๐Ÿ˜† How about you?

Something fun to do indoors when it’s cold outside is to have your own dance party. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

Have you ever done that?

Last week, I searched for “sock hop music” on YouTube, found a fun collection of music from the 50s and 60s, and danced away. My disappointment about the cold weather started to fade as I had a blast enjoying my own dance party. ๐Ÿ˜„

I just LOVE music from the 50s and 60s! This love primarily started in elementary school.

My school had a Sock Hop Night. I borrowed a poodle dress costume from one of my mother’s co-workers. (Thinking about it now, I have no idea how I fit in an adult woman’s costume when I was in elementary school! ๐Ÿคฃ)

I felt so FANCY and special wearing the poodle dress costume! ๐Ÿ˜ƒI remember my mom even helping me put my hair in a side pony. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ (I either wore my hair down or in a normal ponytail when I was a kid, so a side pony was EXTREME! ๐Ÿ˜‚)

The school had the Sock Hop Night in the gymnasium, and it was SO MUCH FUN dancing to music from the 50s and 60s wearing the poodle dress and side pony AND dancing in socks. ๐Ÿ˜€

I remember liking sock hop music so much after that event that my mom got me a cassette tape with sock hop music for my birthday. I was VERY excited! ๐Ÿ’œ

Can you remember any special events that you had when you were a kid that affected the music that you enjoy today?

Because I’ve liked music from the 50s and 60s for ages, I am often surprised and EXCITED when I hear a catchy tune from those decades that I haven’t heard before.

When I was having my personal dance party, I heard a song I hadn’t heard before. It was catchy and so much fun to dance to. It was “Oh! Carol!” by Neil Sedaka.

Lyrics:

Oh! Carol
I am but a fool
Darling I love you
Though you treat me cruel
You hurt me
And you make me cry
But if you leave me
I will surely die
Darling, there will never be another
‘Cause I love you so
Don’t ever leave me
Say you’ll never go
I will always want you for my sweet heart
No matter what you do
Oh! Carol
I’m so in love with you
Darling, there will never be another
‘Cause I love you so
Don’t ever leave me
Say you’ll never go
I will always want you for my sweet heart
No matter what you do
Oh! Carol
I’m so in love with you.

What do you think of the song? Do you remember the first time you heard this song?

I think the song is fun to dance to, but once I started listening to the words for this week’s post, I wondered Why does he want to be with Carol if she’s so mean to him? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I hope you have your own dance party this weekโ€”if only for a minute. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wishing you well!๐Ÿ’›

  1. I’d never heard Oh! Carol! before. And I’m with you in wondering why he wants to be with her if she’s so mean! ๐Ÿ™‚
I haven’t had a dance party recently but over the last couple of weeks I’ve “bopped” to the George Michael Radio and Sheila E Radio playlists on Spotify. Brought back so many fond memories of long sweaty nights on the dance floor in college ๐Ÿ™‚

Thoughts? Please post them :-)
