Yesterday marked 50 years since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. NPR has posted a lot of articles this week about Dr. King. I found the audio clip/transcript of “50 years After MLK Assassination, What Comes Next?”  to be very interesting.

This year, during the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I wrote about about a song that I love that was written about Dr. King, “Pride (In the Name of Love).”

Since this week was the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s death, I wanted to write about another song that was written about Dr. King, Queen’s “One Vision.”

Although I knew “Pride (In the Name of Love)” was written about Dr. King, I didn’t know of any other songs that were created to honor him. However, because Dr. King was such an influential person, I felt confident that there were other songs out there written for him.

I came across the article “10 Songs Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” on Billboard’s website. I was moved to learn about all these songs written for Dr. King-some of the songs being ones that I hadn’t heard before.

I was extremely surprised to see that Queen wrote a song for him because I think Queen is fantastic, and I thought I knew all of their songs, but I actually never heard the song they wrote for him before! 😮

Freddie Mercury’s beautiful voice expressing moving lyrics while being paired with catchy rock beats makes “One Vision” a fantastic dedication to Dr. King!
