I am filled with complete GRATITUDE that my first show in 2.5 years is coming up in just a couple weeks! šÆ(Check out the details here.)
I had stop performing due to the pandemic, and I imagine it is going to be quite the moving experience to have the opportunity to do a show again! š
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to do a performance, and it felt so bizarre to perform in front of others again!
In January of this year, I dedicated a post to my Great Aunt who had passed away. This past weekend, we had a Celebration of Life event for her, and it was beautiful. ā¤ļø
The event was filled with photos from her life and music that she loved, and I know that she would have really appreciated it. š
At the event, I performed the song “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan.
Lyrics:
Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
There’s always some reason
To feel not good enough
And it’s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh a beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty
Oh and weightless and maybe
I’ll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There’s vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don’t make no difference
Escaping one last time
It’s easier to believe
In this sweet madness
Oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees
In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here

What do you think of the song? I remember hearing the song in the 1998 film City of Angels. I remember how that movie and the song together made me cry! š¤£
My relatives told me that the song makes them think of the ASPCA commercials. šæ
It was an extremely emotional experience performing this song at my Great Aunt’s Celebration of Life event. (Of course I internalized all of it because you cannot very well sing and play guitar if you are crying! š)
It felt so odd to perform in front of others again after so long…
My heart feels the most open when I share my love of music with others, and it felt AMAZING to share that love with others again. ā¤ļø
I am honored that I had the opportunity to perform a song in honor of my late Great Aunt. š
Wishing you well! š
I’m so glad that you performed at your great aunt’s celebration of life because I know it meant a lot to her and because performing brings you so much joy and fulfillment! And it was good preparation for your upcoming performance! š ā¤
Thank you so much, Dawn! š
