Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)

Only a couple more weeks until Halloween! 😮 ❤

Despite the worsening  Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has been causing immense suffering globally, I want to try to focus on being positive and helping you find it a little easier to smile during this difficult time. ❤

To continue with the theme of Halloween-themed songs/videos, this week’s song/video is “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” from the 1988 film Beetlejuice:

Lyrics:

Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Me say day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Work all night on a drink of rum
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Stack banana ’til de mornin’ come
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Come, mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Come, mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Lift six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
A beautiful bunch o’ ripe banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Hide the deadly black tarantula
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Lift six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Come, mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Come, mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Me say day, me say day-o
Daylight come and me wan’ go home

I remember Beetlejuice being a film that really creeped me out when I was a kid (especially Beetlejuice with a shrunken head! 😉 ), and I still find the movie creepy (but in an artistic way 🙂 )! 😀

In the clip from the film above, my favorite part of the “Day-O” dance possession is when the characters start singing and shaking their butts with “A beautiful bunch o’ ripe banana” at 3:16. 😀

My second favorite part is when Charles (Jeffrey Jones)  dances to “Hide the deadly black tarantula” at 3:24. 😉

Which parts of the “Day-O” dance possession did you most enjoy?

I hope this week’s song/video made you smile. 🙂

Take good care of yourselves! ❤
