Kiss from a Rose

Here’s another edition of the Thursday Evening Post. 🎵

I’m SO EXCITED for my upcoming show (Sunday, February 23, 2025 | 1pm to 4pm CST | Wisconsin Brewing Company/Lake Louie Brewing) THIS weekend! 💚

I’m THRILLED that I finished painting my third (and final!) support weapon for my Ynnari Warhammer 40K army. I procrastinated WAY too long on this project! 😂

Since it’s still the month of LOVE, I have another love song for you this week—the 1994 song “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal. 💘

Lyrics:

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea
And you became the light on the dark side of me
Love remained a drug that’s the high and not the pill

But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can’t be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

There is so much a man can tell you
So much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me, you’re like a growing addiction that I can’t deny
Won’t you tell me, is that healthy, baby?

But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can’t be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray
I, I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray
I’ve (And if I should fall, will it all go away?) been kissed by a rose on the grey
I, I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray

There is so much a man can tell you
So much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain
To me you’re like a growing addiction that I can’t deny, yeah
Won’t you tell me, is that healthy, baby?

But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can’t be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray
Yes, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

I made the heart in the middle of the roses from a piece of my grandfather’s sweater. 💙

I remember hearing this song A LOT in the car when I was growing up!

I always thought the vocals and melody were so BEAUTIFUL, but I actually never knew what words were being sung in the song! 🤣

As you know, I LOVE Halloween, so maybe this explains it, but when I was a kid, I actually thought the lyrics were “kiss from a rose on the grave.” 🤣

Writing this week’s blog post was the first time I actually looked at the lyrics, so I was humored to see that “gray” is being sung, not “grave.” 😆

Have you ever misheard lyrics before and laughed once you realized your mistake? 😁

The lyrics tell an EXTREMELY moving story. I LOVE the poetic language at the beginning of the song about the lonely “graying tower.” The imagery is so powerful! 💙

What is your reaction to this song?

May you listen to a piece of music today that moves you. 💛

May you be well! 🧡
