Sing

I hope you have been able to stay well in the midst of this pandemic. I believe that music can be healing, and so, I will continue to post songs that I hope will help you feel just a little bit better—even for a few moments.

(If you’d like to check out my earlier posts about songs that I hope bring you some joy during this  Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, please see “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” “Handwashing Songs,”“Everything’s Not Awesome,” “Quarantine Song,” “Reflection,” “Captain Planet Theme Song,” “Fix You,”  “5,000 Candles in the Wind,” “Orchestra Medley,”  What the Word Needs Now is Love,” “Ordinary Man,”“I’ll Take You There,” “Catchy Song, and “I Can See Clearly Now.”)

The song that I want to share with you this week is “Sing” by the Carpenters.

Lyrics:

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Don’t worry that it’s not
Good enough for anyone
Else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.

Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Don’t worry that it’s not

Good enough for anyone
Else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.

When I was a kid, I loved songs by the Carpenters! (Yes, once a again this is due to my mom listening to her “Saturdays at the Seventies” radio show. 😉 )

Whenever I hear the Carpenters’ music, I feel blown away by Karen Carpenter’s amazing voice, but I also feel deeply saddened by the fact that she died of anorexia at age 32. 😦 What a tragedy. 😦

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to make you feel a little bit better—not worse. 😉

The Carpenters have many uplifting hits that make me want to dance (or at least sway back and forth. 😉 )

I recently thought of the song “Sing” because I heard my dad singing it. He wasn’t singing along to the radio or anything; he was just singing it. 😉

Hearing my dad sing the song warmed my heart, and I thought that it would be the perfect song to post this week.

Music can be so powerful, and like the song says, singing can completely change your mood. ❤

I had always thought that this song was the Carpenters’, and you can imagine that I was surprised that it actually first appeared on Sesame Street. 😮

Check out this footage of when the song aired on Sesame Street:

Isn’t that adorable? I also love that the song is in Spanish halfway through! (Sesame Street is so great at teaching kids! <3) After watching this clip, do you feel a little bit better? I can tell you that it sure made me smile. 🙂

Can you think of any songs that you like to sing when you are feeling low?

Please take care of yourselves! ❤
