Lean on Me

Wishing you well today! ❤

Two great things happened this week: this past Monday was the International Day of Peace, and this past Tuesday was the first day of autumn (my second favorite season 😉 ). ❤

In life in general, but especially during this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it is extremely important to celebrate the little things. If you start living your life this way, you will find that you have a lot be grateful for. ❤

A resource that has really helped me during this pandemic is the FREE Healthy Minds Program App provided by the Center for Healthy Minds.

This app provides active and seated meditations and pod-cast style lessons. During one of the lessons I was listening to recently, I felt very moved by something shared by Dr. Richard J. Davidson (founder of the Center for Healthy Minds and the neuroscientist that I first learned about when I attended a Mindful Leadership Conference).

Dr. Davidson said that during this pandemic we need to practice social distancing to help stop the spread of this pandemic but that “social” distancing perhaps is not the right word. He suggested that we instead use the term “physical distancing” instead.

Dr. Davidson added that “physical distancing” is an act of generosity. ❤

I really like the idea of using the term “physical distancing” instead of “social distancing” because thinking about distancing during this pandemic as a “physical” act as opposed to a “social” act puts the focus on keeping a safe distance from others as a means of keeping others safe, whereas “social distancing” makes it seem like an individual isn’t interacting with others at all. (It is imperative that we stay connected with others during this difficult time! ❤ )

With that said, I would like to connect with you by sharing “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers.

Lyrics:

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let show
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can’t carry
I’m right up the road
I’ll share your load
If you just call me (call me)
If you need a friend (call me) call me uh huh (call me) if you need a friend (call me)
If you ever need a friend (call me)
Call me (call me) call me (call me) call me
(Call me) call me (call me) if you need a friend
(Call me) call me (call me) call me (call me) call me (call me) call me (call me)

I’ve always loved this song because it talks about how we all experience suffering but that with the support of others, we can get through anything! ❤

I want to help you get through this pandemic by sharing posts each week that I hope will help you feel connected and hopeful. ❤

(Here are the other posts I’ve written during this pandemic: “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” “Handwashing Songs,” “Everything’s Not Awesome,” “Quarantine Song,” “Reflection,” “Captain Planet Theme Song,” “Fix You,”  “5,000 Candles in the Wind,” “Orchestra Medley,”What the Word Needs Now is Love,”“Ordinary Man,” “I’ll Take You There,”“Catchy Song,” “I Can See Clearly Now,”“Sing,” “Think,” “ Hold Your Head Up,”“Put On Your Mask,”  “Wash Your Hands,” “Get On Your Feet,” “Colors of the Wind,”“Let It Go,”“Hooked on a Feeling,”  “All You Need Is Love,“I Am Enough,” and “Get Together.” )

You are not alone in this pandemic. I truly hope that you can stay healthy, stay connected with others by physically distancing, and think about all of the individuals you have to lean on during this difficult time. ❤
