Crocodile Rock

Here’s another edition of the Thursday Evening Post. πŸ˜Ž

When I was a kid, I had a fun keyboard that had some synthesizer-like features, and it made a lot of quirky sounds. πŸ˜„I had a lot of fun with it! 😁

One thing I remember really liking about the keyboard was that it had a jukebox play-along feature.

You could choose a song from the song bank, and on the screen on the keyboard, it showed you what keys to press so that you could play along.

One song that I remember playing along to was a funky song I had never heard of called “Crocodile Rock.” 🐊

The other day, I was listening to the radio and heard a funky introduction that was familiar to me.

I realized that it was “Crocodile Rock.” 😯

I was surprised to learn that the song I had fun playing on my keyboard as a kid was actually a famous song by Elton John! 🀣

Lyrics:

I remember when rock was young
Me and Susie had so much fun
Holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were rocking round the clock
We were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock
Well, Crocodile rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile rocking was out of sight
Laa, la la la la laa
La la la la laa
La la la la laa
But the years went by and the rock just died
Susie went and left me for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
Dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they’ll never kill the thrills we’ve got
Burning up to the Crocodile Rock
Learning fast as the weeks went past
We really thought the Crocodile Rock would last
Well, Crocodile rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile rocking was out of sight
Laa, la la la la laa
La la la la laa
La la la la laa
I remember when rock was young
Me and Susie had so much fun
Holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy, and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were rocking round the clock
We were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock
Well, Crocodile rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess, I never will
Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile rocking was out of sight
Laa, la la la la laa
La la la la laa
La la la la laa
Laa, la la la la laa
La la la la laa
La la la la laa
Laa, la la la la laa
La la la la laa
La la la la laa

Writing this blog post is actually the first time I ever looked at what the lyrics to the song were.

How fun is this song!?

I LOVE the music from the 1950s AND the fashion (in case you couldn’t tell from my performance attire😁)! ❀️

I love how this song has 1950s feel to it and how the lyrics tell a story about a couple at what sounds like a sock hop. It’s SO ADORABLE! πŸ’š

Do you remember the first time you heard this song?

I LOVE when songs tell a story, and this story is SO CUTE! ❀️

May a fun, catchy tune brighten your day! 🌞
