It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Here’s another edition of the Thursday Evening Post. πŸ€ΆπŸ»

Last week, I shared “Temptation” from my Live at the High Noon series. If you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s a clip of the song:

This week’s song from my Live at the High Noon series is my original song “One Woman Ain’t Enough” featuring Jimmy Murn.

I have been enjoying listening to my Christmas playlist at home and to THREE different Christmas radio stations when I’m driving. πŸ˜ƒ

The song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams recently was on.

Lyrics:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you, “Be of good cheer”
It’s the most wonderful time of the year

It’s the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It’s the hap-happiest season of all

There’ll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There’ll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
There’ll be much misteltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It’s the most wonderful time of the year

There’ll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There’ll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
There’ll be much mistletoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It’s the most wonderful time
Yes the most wonderful time
Oh the most wonderful time
Of the year

I remember hearing this song A LOT when I was growing up. 🎁

I always wondered about the line, “There’ll be scary ghost stories.”

Why are there scary ghost stories at Christmas?πŸ€”

This song is about being excited about it being Christmastime and that people are jolly.

Why then do people want to be scared?

The Smithsonian magazine article “A Plea to Resurrect the Christmas Tradition of Telling Ghost Stories” has the answer. πŸ€“

According to the article, people used to pass time during the winter by sharing ghost stories with their families at night. The article also says, “It really was [Charles] Dickens who popularized the notion of telling ghost stories on Christmas Eve.”

You can find so many more interesting pieces of information in this article, and I highly recommend that you check the article out!

I’m happy that I finally know the answer to why the line “There’ll be scary ghost stories” is in “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” 😁

I ALWAYS love learning new things! πŸ’œ

I’ll leave you with my 2015 cover of “Away in a Manger.” πŸŽ„

May you be well! πŸ’™
