I recently went to the Milwaukee County Zoo for the first time in about a decade. It was a hot and sunny Wisconsin day, and I had SO MUCH fun! βοΈ
I LOVE animals and get SO EXCITED to go to the zoo! (Do I get more excited than most children about the zoo? Perhaps. π)
Whenever I visit the Henry Vilas Zoo here in Madison, the tigerβone of my FAVORITE animalsβis usually hiding. However, he does let his tail peek out every now and then, and you can be sure that I am ECSTATIC when I get to see his tail. π
At the Milwaukee County Zoo, I could see the entire tiger! π He was sleeping and looked so beautiful and peaceful. π―
In my post “The Bare Necessities,” I wrote about watching a bear live his best life in the water at the Henry Vilas Zoo. While I was at the Milwaukee County Zoo, I saw a bear passed out in a hammock with one of his feet sticking out and another bear relaxing on his back in the water as if he were a person enjoying a bubble bath. π€£ Those bears were DEFINITELY living their best lives. π
My FAVORITE part of visiting the Milwaukee County Zoo was seeing the elephants. π

I am ALWAYS moved whenever I see elephants in nature documentaries, but seeing elephants in real life is indescribable. They are such extraordinarily amazing beings and I am filled with awe when I see them! π
I know that I’m not the only one who thinks elephants are amazing, so I was curious to see what kind of songs were out there about elephants and came across the 1975 song “The Elephant Song” by Kamahl.
Lyrics:
Tell me said the elephant
Tell me brothers if you can
Why all the world is full of creatures
Yet we grow in fear of man
Tell me said the elephant
tell me why this has to be
we have to run from man and hunter
never safe and never free
people kill without regret
although they fly by jumbo jet
let the word of men remember
let the children not forget
Gentle is the elephant
Pulling loads and everything
we love to hear the children laughing
when we’re in the circus ring
Happy was the elephant
Happy was his jungle life
and then they came, the cruel hunter
with a rifle and a knife
people kill without regret
although they fly by jumbo jet
let the word of men remember
let the children not forget
Listen, please listen, said the elephant
if we want the world we know to stay alive
Then man and beast, we must work together
And together we will survive
Listen said the elephant
It is conservation time
So take the warning when we trumpet
For the future of mankind
What do you think of the song? Can you think of any songs you enjoy that are about or make you think of elephants?
I found the song to be very sad, but it has an important message.
May we all be respectful of all beings that live on this planet. π
Wishing you well! π
