Autumn in New York

The past few days have been a bit warmer, and as the snow melts, the more it looks like autumn again—my favorite season. 🍂

Today, we celebrated Thanksgiving in the U.S. 🦃

I wanted to take a moment to say that I am so grateful for the people who support my passion for music—the people like you who read my blog posts, the people who listen to my music online, the people who check out my YouTube videos, the people who have purchased a copy of my CD, and the people who attend my shows. I am grateful for you ALL! THANK YOU! 💙

Since it is starting to look and feel like autumn again, I wanted to share a song that I recently came across about the season. Here is “Autumn in New York” by Billie Holiday.

Lyrics:

Autumn in New York, why does it seem so inviting?
Autumn in New York, it spells the thrill of first-nighting
Glittering crowds and shimmering clouds in canyons of steel
They’re making me feel, I’m home
It’s Autumn in New York that brings the promise of new love
Autumn in New York is often mingled with pain
Dreamers with empty hands may sigh for exotic lands
It’s Autumn in New York
It’s good to live it again
Autumn in New York, the gleaming rooftops at sundown
Autumn in New York, it lifts you up when you’re let down
Jaded roués and gay divorcées who lunch at the Ritz
Will tell you, that it’s, divine
This Autumn in New York transforms the slums into Mayfair
Autumn in New York, you’ll need no castle in Spain
Lovers that bless the dark
On benches in Central Park
Greet Autumn in New York,
It’s good to live it again

As I wrote in a past post, I didn’t really know much about Billie Holiday or her music until last year. Her voice was incredibly unique and amazing! 💚

What do you think of this song?

Although I haven’t been to New York, I feel that this song aligns with the image of New York shown in many Hollywood films.

If you’ve been to New York, do you think Billie’s words paint an accurate picture of New York in autumn?

I hope that the warmer (and more normal) autumn weather stays so that I can enjoy being outside the rest of the month. 😊

Wishing you well! 💜
