This week was VERY special for me! π
Since last autumn, I had been volunteering weekly at a local elementary school. To celebrate the end of the school year, I asked the teacher if I could bring in my guitar and sing and play for the kids.
The teacher said, “Yes.” π
I was SO EXCITED!
I told the teacher that I wanted to perform my FAVORITE song from when I was a little girl, “Part of Your World.” (I wrote about this song before in this post.)
I LOVED “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid when I was a kid and STILL love it! I’m still a fan of Ariel tooβif you couldn’t already guess based on this Ariel-inspired miniature that I painted! π

I found the chords for the song and spent the last couple months creating a cover of it.
I had a lot of fun creating an introduction to the song, finger picking the chords, and singing the song in a way that fit my style.
I wanted to make something special for the kids I had been working with all year. π
I was very excited to perform this song and told a lot of people that I was going to play “The Little Mermaid song” for the kids. Someone said to me, “The song Ursula sings?” π€£
Do you remember the song Ursula sings?
They were obviously joking that I would perform “Poor Unfortunate Souls” for the kids. π
I actually quite like that song! However, that song has quite a different message than “Part of Your World.” π
It’s such a haunting song!
When the day came to finally perform “Part of Your World” for the students, I was SO EXCITED! π
They were very curious that I brought my guitar in.
I just started playing without telling them what I was going to sing for them.
They stared at me in the beginning of the song, looking a little unsure.
However, once they recognized the song I was performing, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching their eyes light up! π
Some of the kids were shouting, “I know that song! I know that song!”
The experience brought me such IMMENSE joy! π§‘
Playing for these students reminded me of the first time I started singing in front of othersβin front of the class in the 5th grade singing my original song “Flying.”
May you do something this week that fills you with ABSOLUTE DELIGHT! π©΅
Wishing you well! π©·
