Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Happy December! It’s time for Christmas songs! 🙂

One Christmas song that always puts me in a feel-good mood is “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” particularly the one that Burl Ives sings:

Lyrics:

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight
Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
You’ll go down in history

I really like this song because I love Burl Ive’s voice, and the song makes me think of the 1964 TV movie Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

I just LOVE that movie! ❤ I make sure to watch it every December, and I watched it earlier this week to kick off the Christmas season. 🙂

The film is SO ADORABLE! It has SO MANY great songs too! (Check out my post “A Holly Jolly Christmas”.)

One thing that I find interesting is that watching a movie as a kid and then watching it later as an adult can be an incredibly DIFFERENT experience! 😮

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE this movie! But, there are some things that I am confused about. Here are just a few:

Why does Rudolph’s dad try to make Rudolph into someone he’s not at the beginning of the movie? Why doesn’t he just embrace Rudolph’s uniqueness? 😥

At the beginning of the movie, Santa seems so cruel to Rudolph. Why does Santa care that Rudolph has a red nose? Isn’t Santa supposed to be kind? 😦

Why does it matter that Hermey wants to be a dentist? Don’t Christmas elves eat a lot of candy? Don’t they need someone to look at their teeth? 😉

Why does the Abominable Snowman become kind once his teeth are removed? Isn’t he still dangerous with his claws? 😀

If you have any thoughts about the above questions, let me know. 🙂

Despite these questions, I still thoroughly enjoy this adorable film! ❤
