Here’s another edition of the Thursday Evening Post. 🌹
Now that the weather has gotten warmer, I’ve been enjoying going on bike rides again! 🚲
Do any of you enjoy biking?
Does cold weather stop you?
Cold definitely keeps me from biking as I don’t like to feel cold! 🤣
What ways do you enjoy moving your body?
Did you know that moving your body, eating a healthy diet, not smoking, and limiting your alcohol consumption are ways to reduce your likelihood of getting heart disease?
I LOVE science and listened to this FASCINATING StarTalk episode about heart disease: “Inside the Heart Disease Epidemic with Dr. Lipi Roy & Neil deGrasse Tyson.”
During the episode, Dr. Lipi Roy lists some interesting facts related to the heart that I wanted to share with you! 😄
1. Most heart attacks occur on Monday mornings.
Do you know why? Because Mondays typically create more stress for people than any other day of the week and because our stress hormones are higher in the morning, these factors lead to a rise in blood pressure and an increased heart rate. Isn’t that fascinating?
2. Men and women have different heart attack symptoms.
For example, women may think they are experiencing heart burn when they are actually experiencing a heart attack! 😮
3. Broken hearts can mimic the symptoms of a heart attack.
Why? Stress hormones are the culprit. Fortunately, rest is the way to heal a broken heart.
The broken heart tip made me think of that beautiful song from the 90s: “Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton.
Lyrics:
Don’t leave me in all this pain
Don’t leave me out in the rain
Come back and bring back my smile
Come and take these tears away
I need your arms to hold me now
The nights are so unkind
Bring back those nights when I held you beside me
Un-break my heart
Say you’ll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked out of my life
Un-cry these tears
I cried so many nights
Un-break my heart
My heart
Take back that sad word goodbye
Bring back the joy to my life
Don’t leave me here with these tears
Come and kiss this pain away
I can’t forget the day you left
Time is so unkind
And life is so cruel without you here beside me
Un-break my heart
Say you’ll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked out of my life
Un-cry these tears
I cried so many nights
Un-break my heart
Oh-oh-oh, ooh!
Don’t leave me in all this pain
Don’t leave me out in the rain
Bring back the nights when I held you beside me
Ooh, un-break my heart
Say you’ll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked out of my life
Un-cry these tears
I cried so many, many nights
Ooh, un-break my
Un-break my heart, oh, baby
Come back and say you love me
Un-break my heart, sweet darlin’
Without you, I just can’t go on

What do you think of this song?
Toni Braxton’s voice is so powerful! Her voice paired with the lyrics create such a passionate and moving song. I remember being so sad whenever this music video came on when I was kid! It tells such a sad story. 💔
Who can’t relate to heartbreak?
I digressed. Let’s return to the heart-related facts. 🤓
4. Sneezing does NOT stop your heart.
Although your heart may temporarily change rhythm during a sneeze, your heart only stops during cardiac arrest.
5. Laughing is good for your heart.
This was my favorite fact that I learned! Apparently, laughter makes the blood vessels relax and increase blood flow. Laugher IS the best medicine! 😄
Which heart-related fact was most interesting to you?
To be the BEST version of yourself, it’s crucial to take care of yourself!
I hope this week’s post helped you think of one way you can improve your quality of life!❤️
May you be well! 💚
