Here’s another edition of the Thursday Evening Post. 🐦
Yesterday was Earth Day! 🌏
I didn’t realize until the afternoon! 😬
After I realized, I did pick up some trash that was on the ground. It felt good knowing that such seemingly small actions can make a big difference! ❤️
In honor of Earth Day, I wanted to share “Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)” by Marvin Gaye.
Lyrics:
Woah-oh, oh, mercy, mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be, no, no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the North and South and East
(Father) Woah-oh, mercy, mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be, no, no
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh, oh, oh mercy, mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be, no, no
Radiation underground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy, mercy me
Oh, things ain’t what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land?
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Ooh, ooh, oh, no, no, na, na, na, na
My sweet Lord, na, na, na
My, my Lord, my sweet Lord

What do you think of the song?
I’m certain that I heard this song on one of mom’s oldies radio stations when I was a kid, but I had never listened to the lyrics.
The lines “Where did all the blue skies go?/ Poison is the wind that blows from the North and South and East” make me think of the forest fires in California and Canada that have been so bad the past few years that the air in my home state of Wisconsin has become unhealthy to breathe throughout the summers.
The line “Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas” makes me think of the photographs of struggling animals covered in oil after oil spills.
The line “How much more abuse from man can she stand?” makes me think about how humans are harming the planet, but we have the ability to SAVE Earth.
Do any lines stand out to you?
All we have to do is work together and think of all the little things we can do to make a difference! ❤️Little things add up!
It’s NEVER to late to develop a new good habit that will benefit you, your society, and future generations! 💜
What’s something small that you can do today to make our planet a little healthier?
May you be well! 💙
If you’d like to support my mission to share my passion for music with the world and spread joy, love, and positivity, you can do so here. Thank you so much! 💚
