It’s the final week of the 2016 December Challenge! Christmas is this weekend! đŽ
For the final week, I wanted to do a cover of an extremely powerful Christmas song, one that is filled with sadness but hope. â¤
I did a cover of “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”
Thanks to Wikipedia’s article, I learned that the lyrics of this song were taken from a poem! The poem was written in 1863 by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow about the American Civil War.
Longfellow’s poem did not become a song until the mid to late 1800s.
Here is my cover of “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”
The lyrics are as follows:
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
and wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”
If youâre not familiar with the lyrics, they are:
