Happy end of October!
For this month’s song on my YouTube channel, AllysMusicRoom, I wanted to share a song related to my favorite holiday, Halloween. ❤
Because I haven’t written any Halloween songs…yet…I decided to do a cover this month.
I chose to do the nursery rhyme, “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater.” I liked that the poem was about pumpkins as pumpkins are EVERYWHERE since it is almost Halloween! 🙂
Before I began working on the music for “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater,” I decided to do a little research about the song. The poem never really made sense to me. Why would he put his wife in a pumpkin? Well, I found out.
According to several different sources, the nursery rhyme “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater” is actually about a man that killed his wife (or a woman that he knew)! 😮
People are in disagreement about who the woman that “Peter” killed is. 👿
Once I found out that this song was about murder, I thought, “This is perfect for Halloween!” 😈
After learning more about the eeriness of this poem, I decided to come up with my own rendition of “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater.” After creating the melody for the traditional lyrics and pairing the vocals with guitar music I deemed a good fit, I knew that this video was going to be like no other.
I decided to put a bunch of pumpkins in the shot as well as as have creepy skulls scurry around the walls.
Here is my rendition of “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater.”
Here are the lyrics:
-
Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
-
Had a wife but couldn’t keep her;
-
He put her in a pumpkin shell
-
And there he kept her very well.
-
Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
-
Had another and didn’t love her;
-
Peter learned to read and spell,
-
And then he loved her very well.
I hope you enjoyed this month’s song! 🙂
Have a Happy Halloween! ❤
