Last week, I wrote about how I was really excited to finish writing my SECOND new song (since TEMPTATION) on Leap Day. What a better way to bring closure to a month than that? 😀
This week, I had hoped to have the song ready to share with you all, but as I’ve written about before, life always has stuff going on no matter what your plans are. 😉
I’ve been busy with practicing my newest song, practicing songs for weddings (If you’re interested send me an inquiry, here 🙂 ), and practicing for my show in April (check out the details, here). Oh yeah, and I forgot about also being busy with a full-time day job as well as being busy with the day to day stuff of life.
Because life can get really nuts with all the stuff I have going on, I try my hardest to stay balanced. I find that I can stay balanced as long as I keep the one thing in my life that brings me great happiness, the one thing in my life that I pour my entire heart into, the one thing in my life that will put me at ease no matter what else is going on: my music.
Because life can get so busy, I know a lot of people struggle with finding time for their passion. So, I wanted to share with you some tips I have for making this time.
- Schedule Time
I heard that people do this, and I thought I would try it to see if it made a difference. Well, let me tell you, it really does! If I write in my planner that I’m going to practice a song on piano for a wedding or practice my guitar for a show, and I don’t do it…it feels pretty crappy. 😦 It feels GREAT when I get to cross those items off! 😀 - Don’t Get Discouraged
Sometimes after a tough day, the last thing I want to do is practice for hours because I’m tired, and I just want to relax. However, no matter how tired I am from a tough day, doing music brings me new energy. It never fails! If you have a rough day, and you absolutely can’t dedicate time to your passion, it’s okay. Try again the next day 🙂 - Remember Why You Are Doing This
Sometimes I get frustrated when I spend hours practicing/writing and things don’t go as well as I had hoped. I always remind myself that although the progress is not what I had hoped for, I still made progress. Most importantly, despite how much progress I do or don’t make, my mood always improves because I am doing what I love. 😀 - Don’t Forget to Take a Break
Sometimes I get so focused on fitting in time for my passion that I overdo it. I practice so much my fingers get cramped and I start losing my voice! In order for it to be sustainable for me to regularly devote time to my passion, I need to force myself to stop 😛 Make sure that you give yourself some free-time. Allow you body and mind to have a break from your passion. Life can be very busy, and if you fit in time for your passion, it can make your life even more busy. Make sure you take time to slow down, be in the present moment, and take time to enjoy your life. - Do It for Yourself
It’s not unusual for people to say that I’m trying to do too much and that things would be easier if I followed the “normal” flow of daily life. You know, get up, go to work, come home and watch some television, and do it all again the next day. I will not judge if some people want to live their lives that way. I will not judge those who gave up on their passions and dreams. However, I don’t want to be one of those people. I never want to have regrets. My advice for you is, no matter what anyone says about what you are doing, keep doing it because you want to. It doesn’t matter if you’re not following the flow of the majority. You only get one life. Do what you love! 🙂
